In the beginning of last July a friend came along and invited me to a weekend workshop.
He gave me the idea that it was a quite expensive weekend, so expensive that he was allowed to invite a guest for free. I was invited.
During his story I saw a lot of my defense mechanisms becoming active.
At some point I felt the urge to step over all my defenses and accepted the invitation.
I surrendered to a weekend full of surprises.
And that’s what is was, to my own surprise.
So, there we were, between a hundred and hundred and fifty people.

Gerry Robert is the founder of a bookselling company that has turned the world of publishing upside down, as he says himself.
The goal of his company is to reach a sales volume of $100.000.000 per year soon.
Well, what can I say, he has a clear offer: I teach you almost everything I know about publishing a book, so by the end of the weekend you can do it yourself if you want.

Then pay me € 20.000 and for that money you will get alt the support you need, all the materials you need, a book title, a video promotion on the web, and between 1000 and 2000 free copies of your book.
This is basically what it comes down to.
For a while during the weekend I did not quite feel at easy, cause the whole thing is so tempting that there was a slight fear that I would fall for the offer.
So, inside there came a whole process in motion, focussed on getting my position clear.
That was done rather quickly, so from then on I could be the spectator again of the spectacle. And a spectacle it was.
And to make the story short and a bit simplified: Gerry Robert got 25 people to buy his offer, so the turnover for that weekend was half a million euros.
I had wanted to finish this report month ago, but postponed it. Now I take the incoming invitations for another of his shows as a deadline to get this blog done.
I will not attend his upcoming event, because I already have something else planned for that weekend. Otherwise I probably would have gone, if only just to see this show performed again.
Let me share my memories of the happening in July and what it did for me.
As background information this: some thirty years ago I myself attempted to become a trainer in the business world. I was well trained in NLP and in the decades afterwards this became truly a tool in learning about communication in the world of sales etcetera.
Quite soon it became clear to me that this was an attempt only; I do not fit at all in this world. Yet, having grown older a bit and even a tad wiser, the appeal to the appetite to write a book (I have started and never finished more than one book) was pulling.
So, here I was, entering this Seminar Hotel (Raddison Blue under the smoke of Schiphol Airport). This friend that I went along with, knew a few people there. So at the table where we drank our first coffee, information was exchanged about people’s motivations for coming. What my book was going to be about, was the question. I said that if I was going to write a book it would be about spirituality and that there probably would not be any interest in that in the current setting. Right away people started tellling me about how much spirituality there was nowadays also in the world of business trainings. I was surprized and not yet convinced.
Then the weekend started unrolling.
One of the things that happened was that some people were introduced to us as the ones that had taken up the challenge to pay for their support and were at the point of publishing their book. About one of them was told that he had withdraw long a go from the world and actually had lived in the forest during his spiritual quest. And that recently he had made the step out of the forest and back into the world. I spoke to the quy in the first break. He has live for years as a shaman and got a vision about a training and had made the decision the write a book about this and go out into the world to offer his newly gained insights.
This story helped me to become aware of my position: I am still in the forest and it would be nonsense to let myself trick out of it just by being made an offer that you can’t refuse.
The offer was not appliable for me. I relaxed and enjoyed the show.
Afterwards I stayed in touch with Tom, the guy that lived in the forest.
He recently actually had his book published in the old fashioned form of a paper book.
